Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a therapy model using bilateral eye movements to replace negative images and sensations with positive ones. It’s especially helpful to clients with PTSD and Complex Trauma, but it is also helpful for depression, anxiety, and more. Clients see results in 1 to 5 sessions of ART and never talk about their trauma unless they care to share. My clients have had amazing results even in one session.

Talk Therapy

In talk therapy, I use Internal Family Systems and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with a compassion-focused approach while incorporating Schema Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy when appropriate. I’m trained in Trauma Model Therapy Level 1, Internal Family Systems for Trauma, Anxiety, and Complex Issues, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.

Somatic Therapy

Those who have experienced complex trauma, especially childhood abuse, can have extreme difficulty connecting with their bodies, creating blocks in processing the trauma. With Somatic Therapy, we gently begin making connections with the experience of being in the body to assist in healing. Somatic Therapy can also be helpful for getting a client, who is stuck in a cycle of rumination, out of their head and into their body for a change of focus.

Breath Work & Yoga

As a Trauma Group Therapist, I incorporated gentle chair yoga and breath work regularly and saw the crucial benefits for my PHP and IOP patients. In private sessions, I incorporate gentle seated exercises or standing poses, if needed, to assist in releasing the resistant trauma. I don’t currently teach yoga classes, but I eventually want to offer trauma-informed yoga for an in-person experience with the support of a group. In the future, I plan to create videos for clients to access yoga on their own. See Resources.

Therapeutic Art

In my PHP/IOP trauma group, I incorporated Therapeutic Art each week to give an alternative expression of trauma and healing. Most participated eagerly and looked forward to it, but some group members were resistant. Even those that were resistant became advocates and saw the benefits. I don’t regularly incorporate therapeutic art in private sessions, but I’m open to it if a client wants and have supplies on hand. With an undergraduate degree in art and a lifetime working as an artist, I understand how therapeutic the making of art can be and hope to have classes or videos in the future.

Resources

Resources will soon include yoga and breath work videos for clients to access on their own as part of their healing practice. I will include information on online courses and therapeutic art exercises to do at home. I, also, plan to provide links to important information and educational videos that clients can reference to expand their awareness and gain insight into different aspects of their issues.
